BLACK AND WHITE

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY IN NYC AND LA BETWEEN 2010-2016

A few months ago I went with my friend David to Palos Verdes, California. He wanted to surf with some friends and I decided it was a good excuse to experience LA in the early morning when it's crisp and fresh and feels like Fall.

When we got there, we had to climb down through some pathless terrain onto the beach that was very rocky. They all dove into the water, and I, afraid of the ocean quite literally, stayed on the shore to take photos. Photography, especially the part when you process the photographs, has always been a way to constantly create, even when you don't have materials.

There was something romantic about the shapes and light on the rocks when they were captured in black and white. It made them quieter, almost as though the main character was the lights and the darks. This series will likely continue. I just need to find other excuses to traverse LA in search for the perfect rocks.
