A CATCH-ALL OF PSYOP DESIGNS CREATED BY LAUREN INDOVINA BETWEEN 2009-2016
There is no place I'd rather have been than in the studio at PSYOP during the late 2000's/ early 2010's. The design environment was fierce as f----. The design team at PSYOP consisted of a combination of wildly gifted designers. It was like some sort of artists haven—you just worked your ass off and along the way you found cool ways of doing something, others would as well, and you'd share your new tools.
It was as competitive as it was nurturing. We were constantly moving like sharks who, if still, would die. This gallery is a sample of that movement. PSYOP during this time was known for their "worlds". The industry joke was that you could dive into any part of the frame and find a new story. I fell in love with this idea, but it took a lot of technical prowess to reach.
Like an athelete in training, I boot-camped myself to do the best "worlds" I could under the Psyop regime. It made me an accomplished photoshop-er. It didn't matter to anyone if you did actually make worlds within worlds. What mattered is that you could capture the imagination of your audience. To do this took invention. What I learned from the many years I spend designing characters at PSYOP was that if you weren't being inventive with you character design, don't bother.
