PSYOP CHARACTER KOOLAID
CHARACTER ART CREATED BY LAUREN INDOVINA AT PSYOP, 2009-2016
There is no place I'd rather have been than in the studio at PSYOP during the late 2000's/ early 2010's. The design environment was fierce as f----. The design team at PSYOP consisted of a combination of wildly gifted designers. It was like some sort of artists haven—you just worked your ass off and along the way you found cool ways of doing sometime, others would as well, and you'd share your new tools.
It was as competitive as it was nurturing. We were constantly moving like sharks who if still would die. This gallery is a sample of that movement. It didn't matter to anyone if you were better at "cute" or "dark" or "well rendered" characters. What mattered is that you could capture the imagination of your audience. To do this took invention. What I learned from the many years I spent designing characters at PSYOP was that if you weren't being inventive with your character design, don't bother.
